Colorful flowers and trees, swaying palms, tangled mangroves—there is so much natural beauty in Key West.
See it all when you stay at Westwinds Inn. Many local gardens and parks are within five miles of our hotel, though you can always just explore the lush grounds and gardens right here on site.
Nancy Forrester is a plant and animal lover that has been rescuing and re-homing orphaned parrots for more than 30 years. This garden allows you the unique experience of talking, laughing, and dancing with vibrantly colored, highly social parrots, and is an excellent thing to do with the kids. The garden is located on Elizabeth Street just four blocks away.
Open Daily from 10:00am – 3:00pm
Known to some as the “Jewel of Key West,” the Audubon House and its gardens is one of the prettiest places on the island. It is located between Duval Street and Mallory Square, just 0.7 miles away from our hotel. Take a tour of the house and the gardens that surround it, which are overflowing with gorgeous orchids and bromeliads. The gardens also feature a koi pond.
Open Daily from 9:30am – 4:15pm
One of the island’s last remaining free tourist attractions, the Key West Garden Club is one of Key West’s most beautiful and tranquil spots. The garden is maintained by members and volunteers and features a rare collection of native and exotic trees and plants, a water lily pond, waterfall, and arched courtyards. The Key West Garden Club is located in the West Martello Tower, a Civil War fort and a National Historic Site, which is near the beach on White Street and Atlantic Boulevard. It is only 1.5 miles away.
Open Daily from 9:30am – 5:00pm
You’ll find the Sonny McCoy Indigenous Park located right next to the garden club. This native tree and bird park is a great place to spend your day or to celebrate a special event. Within the park is the Wildlife Rescue Center that cares for injured wildlife, a wildlife trail and pond, picnic area, and six bocce courts.
Open Daily from 9:00am – 5:00pm
The Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden is home to many endangered and threatened flora and fauna, and features two wetland habitats, two butterfly gardens, a lush courtyard with a waterfall, and an array of tropical palms, trees, and plants. It is the only frost-free botanical garden in continental U.S., so most trees retain their leaves year-round thanks to the tropical environment and ample rain. Explore the garden or participate in community yoga and meditation along with local residents. The Botanical Garden is located on College Road in Stock Island, just 3.7 miles away.
Open Daily from 10:00am – 4:00pm, Closed Christmas, New Year’s Day, and July 4
